Kobi Onyame: Still We Rise ft Wanlov (The Kubolor)
Dir: Kobi Onyame and Wanlov (The Kubolor)
Visuals: 6Miludo
When Moshood and Obodai Sonny wrote their review of Onyame’s album Gold, last year, I decided to listen – simply because I trust Moshood’s music taste and I was not disappointed!
Still We Rise quickly became a theme tune for what was going to be a tough few months for me, along with Ria Boss’ Love Yourself. So it’s safe to say that after a LONG break (sorry SJ!) this review (more of a summary) was a no brainer.
UK-based Ghanaian artist Kobi Onyame released visuals to the penultimate track on the 11-track album a few days ago, featuring one of my favourite musicians/creatives; Wanlov (The Kubolor).
Like the Maya Angelou poem it no doubt gets its inspiration from, the song is a slow but upbeat reminder of self-love and motivation, to keep pushing higher. The video directed by both artists and filmed by multi-media production company, 6Miludo, sees Kobi and Wanlov (The Kubolor) on a journey to the picturesque eastern region area of Aburi, where they shoot predominantly performance sequences overlooking breath-taking landscapes.
The video is a richly coloured piece, with a mix of close up and long shots, edited to the perfect rhythm of neither fast or slow beats. It’s clear that both artists took an opportunity to create something beautiful but simple on a nice sunny day, and it definitely paid off!
Stunning to watch and definitely makes me (very!) homesick.
